I am an Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, and seniar researcher at CENTEC. I am the leader of the Autonomous Ship Lab at CENTEC, where my work focuses on autonomous ships, particularly navigation, control systems, ship manoeuvring, and experimental testing. I lead and support research on autonomous ship technologies, participate in European and national research projects, supervise PhD research, and actively contribute to the scientific community.

I am the Co-Leader of WG5 for the COST Project, DeWaTra, PI of the FCT project, and I was involved in 7 European and FCT R&D projects, I visited other European universities and instutie, such as AMOS-NTNU, TECNALIA, LNEC, and Escola Naval.

I am an ISSC member, IEEE member, Editor board member of JMSA, Guest editor in the JMSE, section chairman of the MARTECH, RENEW conferences.

I have published around 65 scientific papers, including 39 papers in international SCI journals, 5 patents, 12 international book chapters, 9 papers in International Conference Proceedings, and has (co)edited 2 books.
